The Famous Art Playlist

I can confidently say that we are currently living in the age of digital music. We no longer have to wait in line for CDs only to spend the next few years coveting them like a newborn child to prevent our favourite tracks from skipping. No, we can just look up entire albums on YouTube instead. We can log onto iTunes and download the sickest singles. We can walk around with thousands of songs in our pockets. Music follows us everywhere. We listen to it while we’re driving, working, and studying. We listen to it while we’re excerising and doing chores, and sometimes even while we’re sleeping.  Since music is already everywhere, why not combine it with art? Below, I have matched a few famous paintings with song lyrics that I thought complimented their tone.

Edvard Munch, The Scream

Edvard Munch, The Scream

Basket Case-Green Day
Sometimes I give myself the creeps
Sometimes my mind plays tricks on me
It all keeps adding up
I think I’m cracking up
Am I just paranoid?
A ya-ya-ya

Georges Seurat, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte

Georges Seurat, A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte

Lazing on a Sunday Afternoon-Queen
I go out to work on Monday morning
Tuesday I go off to honeymoon
I’ll be back again before it’s time for sunny-down,
I’ll be lazing on a Sunday afternoon
Bicycling on every Wednesday evening
Thursday I go waltzing to the zoo
I come from London Town, I’m just an ordinary guy
Fridays I go painting in the Louvre
I’m bound to be proposing on a Saturday night (there he goes again)
I’ll be lazing on a Sunday
Lazing on a Sunday
Lazing on a Sunday afternoon

Dust Bowl Dance-Mumford & Sons
The young man stands on the edge of his porch
The days were short and the father was gone
There was no one in the town and no one in the field
This dusty barren land had given all it could yield

But It’s Better If You Do-Panic! at the Disco
And isn’t this exactly where you’d like me
I’m exactly where you’d like me, you know
Praying for love in a lap dance and paying in naivety
Oh, isn’t this exactly where you’d like me
I’m exactly where you’d like me, you know
Praying for love in a lap dance and paying in naivety
