She hatched from
the moon with skin cracked
like craters. She danced
with dust.

He emerged from
the sun. Flames dripped
from his skin. He fell to his knees.
Crawled and brought his head up.
He felt pain.

He longed for her presence.

She ascended. Twirled
and twisted her way to him.
He remembered how to
poise himself among the stars.
Their eyes found each other.

She dipped
her hands into his chest
and pulled out his core.

She thrusted it
into her torso.

She turned to ash.
He forgot loneliness.

Nothing but soot
and cinder. He whispered,
“I still hear you breathing.”
