The Story of Red and Blue

I don’t think it’s an overstatement anymore to say that there are thousand of educational Youtube channels. Crash Course and Khan Academy lead the category, but tons of people upload new content trying to teach random strangers anything from geopolitics to physics to linguistics. Frankly, it’s hard to think of topics you can’t just learn from a video. However there is one channel that has made teaching an art form over the past few years: Overly Sarcastic Productions.

Overly Sarcastic Productions (OSP) is a channel helmed by Red and Blue. (Three guesses as to who is who and the first two don’t count.) Blue summarizes history, discusses philosophy, and occasionally gives tours from his historically significant vacation spot in Europe. (Weird flex, but- oh who am I kidding? It’s awesome.) Red summarizes literature and mythology, talks tropes, animates videos and sings and plays guitar during the credits. (Quick side note: Red is a math major. MATH. What can’t she do?) Every frame of these videos is done with the irreverence these subjects deserve with visual jokes and snide remarks. No one from Zeus to Alexander the Satisfactory is safe from these two.

It’s hard not to grow to love these two, and since I subscribed six months ago, a quarter of a million people have joined me in laughing at the boring nerd junk they deliver to our notifications each Friday. Occasionally we get the fruits of their procrastination (which are hilarious), but more often they give us what takes countless hours of hard work. Their work is truly a victory for the forces of justice. So… yeah.

My picks of OSP

Red and Blue: our heroes, everybody!
