Submission Guidelines

Entry deadline for literary works, poetry, and artwork is November 2, 2018

Entry deadline for film production, music composition, and dance choreography is December 23, 2018

General Requirements

We are moving to a completely online system. If you have already submitted hard copies of your work for the 2019 edition of Sanskrit, we will review it. If you have questions about the hard-copy submission process, please email editor@sanskritmagazine.com Otherwise, please use the online submission portal for literary-arts. To submit entries of digital works, please email them to editor@sanskritmagazine.com

ALL SUBMISSIONS SHOULD INCLUDE: A cover letter introducing yourself and your work, containing a 30-70 word autobiographical statement written in third person. This should not be a list of previous publication credits. Content is otherwise subject to the artist’s discretion.

  • Include your contact information (name, address, phone number, email)
  • Additionally, if you are submitting literary works, include word count, as well as the title and page number on every page of the manuscript or poem.

Accepted digital works (film production, music composition, and dance choreography) will be posted to the Sanskrit website for the duration of one year. Additionally, accepted pieces will be shown at the magazine reveal in the Spring and in a screening in the Student Union theater.

Note: The submissions portal can only accommodate files of 128 mb. If your submission is larger than that, please do not use the submissions portal. Instead, email your file to editor@sanskritmagazine.com

Literary Works:

  • Short stories and other works are limited to FIVE (5) entries
  • Stories should be typed, double-spaced, on 8 ½ x 11 inch paper or Word document
  • Maximum 3,500 words
  • Accepted formats: PDF, DOC/DOCX

Poetry:

  • Limited to FIFTEEN (15) entries
  • The poet’s printing of the work will be the assumed format, should the piece be accepted for publication
  • Accepted formats: PDF, DOC/DOCX

Artwork:

  • Limited to TEN (10) entries per person
  • Highest-quality images available uploaded via our online form
  • Each digital fileclearly labeled (Title, medium, size, artist name)
  • Accepted formats: JPG, PNG, TIFF

Film Production:

  • Limited to FIVE (5) entries per person
  • Narrative and documentary style accepted
  • Maximum 15 minutes
  • Accepted formats: MP4, WMV, MP3, and ACC

Music Composition:

  • Limited to FIVE (5) entries per person
  • All styles and instrument combinations accepted
  • Maximum 10 minutes
  • Accepted formats: MP4, WMV, MP3, and ACC

Dance Choreography:

  • Limited to FIVE (5) entries per person
  • All styles accepted
  • Group or solo performances accepted
  • Maximum 10 minutes
  • Accepted formats: MP4, WMV, MP3, and ACC

 

Submissions of literary works, poetry and artwork must be previously unpublished. If you have sent any work to another publisher, please immediately notify the staff of Sanskrit if it is published so that it can be removed from our evaluation process.

Please include a list of laurels with any film submission. Please include a list of any awards or recognitions of all digital works. Bios, contact information, and awards/recognitions should be put in a PDF/DOC/DOCX file and be included in the email submission of any digital works.
